MYCQ

1993 Annual Trophy Presentation

By Jenny Maruff

This was held on Saturday June 5th at the Intercontinental Hotel which proved to be a spacious and gracious venue. Hostess with the mostest, Manreen Williams, ably assisted by Archival Expert Janice McWatters welcomed guests as they came up the stately staircase. Among the early birds were the McNabbs and the Swensons.

Grant McNabb, Mark and Pam Swensons and Noella McNabb

Bronwyn Sims, Melissa Dodd, Ian Kelshaw and Jim Stubbings exchanged greetings at the bar

Nearby were Barbara Stubbings, Katie Dellit and the Gannons. The flash was too much for Katie and Pat who had had a hard day.

Clustered in front of the clavichord were Greg Trish, Dianne and Grant Cox and Carla Parker.

Young fry Tirza and Sabra Cruse were with Chris Dellit waiting for Lucy and Jessie Mitchell to arrive.

Jon and Jenny Smythe joined Dudley Young and Jenny Maruff for pre-dinner drinks. Kerry Van der Mark insisted on taking their photo but the photo has been swiped from the MYCQ photo library.

John and Mary Nolan had come with their daughter Donna and her husband Chris

Bruce Mitchell and wife Sierra-Sue arrived before the rest of the Intoxication team

David and Vicki Mobbsby, Penny and Peter Jackson (Intoxication Crew).

After drinks and assorted savories, we sat down to dinner. Social Chair, Maureen Williams introduced Commodore Dudley Young who welcomed members and guests. MC. Allan Mitchell began by saying what a successful year it had been in terms of boats racing (32) and total entries (204) - up from 169 last year. Plaques were presented to all those racing skippers who were there.

John Nolan, the Trophy Officer spoke briefly about the value of the perpetual trophies and he asked winners to treat them with care. He then presented Allan Mitchell with three engraved whiskey glasses for Handicapping, Publicity and Race results. Allan does an enormous amount of work for the club and the applause was indicative of the members' appreciation of his efforts.

At this Stage the pumpkin soup was served. It had had to wait a little while and had cooled down considerably.

In the next break Allan called on Trevor Dellit who used to whinge about coming second to now whinge about coming third - to Coochie, in the Two Handed and in the Round the Buoys Races. Trevor received his trophies from the Commodore. Intrinsic was second in the Coochie return - Jan McWatters collected the trophy. Andy Havas (Dragonfly) looked pleased when be was presented with the Odin Trophy and glassware
for first to Tangalooma.

At some stage the main course and pudding were served and consumed.

Allan called John Nolan to speak about the The Great Bay Race which was conceived by Leigh Wynne who donates the Trophy in memory of his father Graeme. John has won it three times on Goldrush. This time it went to Kim Mitchell on Mad Dog's Tiptruck.

John also spoke about the Guss Trouchet Cruising Trophy which was not presented this year. Jill Mitchell agreed to pose with it on her head (Sorry photo has been taken).

The Birkbeck's Trophies for excellent articles in Multinews went to Peter Garden ($100) for the weather stuff which Jill Mitchell claims has helped Kim win races this year. Second was Jan McWatters' cruising story on Moreton Island.

Groucho Marx was first in the Two Handed Race and the Coochie Race. Pat Barker accepted the trophies. Second in the Ocean Series was Goldrush. John Nolan praised the crew for winning the Mooloolaba Races and the Gneering Shoal Race. Geoff Cruse looked pleased when preserued with the Westerly Trophy by the donor Jim Stubbings. Geoff also won the first Bay Race Series and had nine other placings. Chris and Ray Black were rewarded for racing hard on Kreepy Crauly. They won the Bribie and the Coolaroo Trophies and eight other placings. Their prizes included a stack of elegant Guzzini ware suitable for their new cruising cat. Winner of the John and Mary Nolan Goldrush Trophy for services to the club was Jenny Maruff. The most important Trophy was presented by Trevor Dellit for Club Champion to Kim Mitchell (Mad Dog's Tiptruck with eight firsts, six seconds and two thirds - just amazing! Kim had entered more races than anyone else.

Many thanks to M.C. Allan Mitchell who did an excellent job despite the heckling from those whom I won't name but whose initials are - Geoff Toomey and Geoff Cruse. The monster bottle of scotch was won by Jan Cruse. Nobody missed the dancing - a regular feature of Annual Dinner and Trophy Presentations. People just wanted to talk - and talk they did until after 1am.

Many thanks to those who worked hard to make it a successful night. - Menreen, Allan, Jill, Jan and John

Offshore Multihull Rating (OMR) System

The MYCQ Administers the Offshore Multihull Rating (OMR) System, which is used to handicap all Multihull Yachts. It is similar to the IRC system used for monohulls but is tailored to be applied to all Multihull Designs. This website provides:

The MYCQ regularly reviews the OMR formulas by looking at race results and analysing trends and new technologies to ensure the OMR system is current and as accurate as possible.

As with most handicapping systems, it is not perfect and rather than criticizing the system and the people that administer it we encourage you to become involved in the club and contribute to developing the system.
