 The following is an amendment to the PDF Sailing Instructions

COOLAROO TROPHY TO BE HELD ON SUNDAY 16 SEPTEMBER 2018; AMENDMENT TO THE COURSE AND THE SIs.

Competitors entering the Bribie Cup to be held on the 15 September must nominate with QCYC and the fee will include a berth for Saturday 15 September at QCYC marina. 

Accordingly, as the competing boats will be moored at QCYC, the course for Sunday 16 September has been amended to start due east and to the west of the Fisheries Beacon and within 100m of it at the scheduled time of 10.00 am. There will not be a start boat for this race but MYCQ boats shall contact Catalyst at 0945 hours on VHF 72 nominating their intention to race, sail number and number of crew on board and if sailing on OMR the combined weight of the crew. 

The revised course will be as follows.

Start: to the west of Fisheries Beacon, bearing 270º and within 100m of it, at 10.00am. Fisheries Beacon is approximately 27º19.39’S and 153º06.43’E.

Otter Rock to port.

Garnet Rock to port.

North Reef, approximately 27º11.00’S and 153º 07.97’E, to starboard.

Outer Measured Mile (rear lead), 27º14.97’S and 153º15.10’E, to starboard.

Mud Island to starboard. 

St Helena Island (including the St Helena red) to starboard.

Finish within 50 metres of Green Island West Cardinal, approximately 27º25.12s and 153º13.25’E, bearing 120º.

NOTE: the new rules required by MSQ that are in the latest version of the 2018 MYCQ SIs revision H and the 2018 Coolaroo Trophy revision D are as follows.

26. CLEARANCE TO NAVIGATION MARKS

Vessels must observe a 20 metre exclusion zone around each of the following Aids to Navigation: Jay's Reef Buoy, Hope Banks Beacon, Norman J Wright Beacon, Crawford James Pattison Beacon, Red Beacon NE Green Island and South Cardinal Beacon St Helena Island.

27. PROOF OF INSURANCE

All skippers of any vessel participating in a race to which this Authority applies, must maintain on board and produce upon demand by the Race Committee, a copy of a current valid Certificate of Currency with respect to the third-party property and third party personal injury insurance for the vessel.

28. REPORTING OF MARINE INCIDENTS

All marine incidents must be reported to the Race Committee in addition to regula- tory requirements to report marine incidents to Maritime Safety Queensland.

Offshore Multihull Rating (OMR) System

The MYCQ Administers the Offshore Multihull Rating (OMR) System, which is used to handicap all Multihull Yachts. It is similar to the IRC system used for monohulls but is tailored to be applied to all Multihull Designs. This website provides:

The MYCQ regularly reviews the OMR formulas by looking at race results and analysing trends and new technologies to ensure the OMR system is current and as accurate as possible.

As with most handicapping systems, it is not perfect and rather than criticizing the system and the people that administer it we encourage you to become involved in the club and contribute to developing the system.
