Bow flare

Just checking this mast is straight Peter!

Peter Wilcox, the very excited owner, standing next to his 21.5 m Allyacht Spars/ NZ Rigging Ltd carbon fibre mast assembly on another long trailer was telling me that the basic   fitted with this PBO material on the inners when delivered.

Ullman Sails (Sunshine Coast loft) have supplied the high tech sails; the mainsail and genoa are made from a Fiberpath Carbon Technora blend material. The A3 & A5 kites are made from a CZ HP Technora . The mainsail has a 2m long square top, 9 battens and 3 reefing points. (Phew some sails!!!)

I asked Peter about the vessel name ‘MOJO’ and he laughed and said he was a fan of the film series and he had this boat built to get his MOJO back!!!

It is amazing how some of the guys that have been connected with the multihull scene for years turn up at such events. Typically there were a number of local boat builders including Ross Blair from Pescott Cats and the inimitable Geoff Cruse who was there in an official capacity doing a survey for insurance purposes. This is now an insurance requirement even for a professionally built one off vessels. Just more expense for the owner!!!

The crane arrived and with the slings in place ‘MOJO’ was gingerly lifted off the trailer and slowly introduced to its new permanent medium. The champagne was then used to duly perform the christening together with a taste test by the Owner with congratulations all round to Julian and all his talented team.

‘MOJO’ flying both hulls already???

The Christening

Peter then invited Julie Geldard, our talented photographer, and me on board for a closer inspection of the layout. It has twin steering stations set at the extremities of the beam for ease of conttrol.

Each steering position has a full set of Raymarine ST 70  windspeed and depth instruments plus electronic engine controls for the two 40 hp Lombardini Saildrives. The boat has a very spacious unobstructed cockpit. It has been built close to the layout shown on the Schionning G Force 1500 web site with galley up layout to port and the well fitted out navigation centre to starboard, and fitted mostly with the latest Raymarine electronic equipment. The owner’s choice of décor is black and white with contrasting grey trim and carpeting. The finish is excellent throughout. Accommodation in the hulls is, two athwartships queen size doubles forward, port and starboard with an extra single forward on the port side and an en-suite and sail storage forward on the starboard side. Port aft hull has a spacious head and separate shower while there is an additional double cabin aft in the starboard hull.

Offshore Multihull Rating (OMR) System

The MYCQ Administers the Offshore Multihull Rating (OMR) System, which is used to handicap all Multihull Yachts. It is similar to the IRC system used for monohulls but is tailored to be applied to all Multihull Designs. This website provides:

The MYCQ regularly reviews the OMR formulas by looking at race results and analysing trends and new technologies to ensure the OMR system is current and as accurate as possible.

As with most handicapping systems, it is not perfect and rather than criticizing the system and the people that administer it we encourage you to become involved in the club and contribute to developing the system.
