2003 Trophy Night

by Jenny Maruff

Numerically speaking, we've had the best Trophy Night ever. One hundred and eleven people were present. There were eight children who ranged from seven weeks to the teens, all well behaved. The stage looked grand with our new flag pinned across floor to ceiling white drapes. The Trophies were elegantly displayed on a white lace cloth and flowers and greenery decorated the stage. We had decided on china plates, proper tablecloths and stainless steel cutlery. Our caterers "COAST TO COAST It's GOLDEN ROAST'' did a marvellous job feeding the multitude. Ray Perry had rigged up his own stereo system to play party music during the night. It certainly set the atmosphere. Every one was in party mood.

The actual Trophy Presentation was conducted by the Commodore Dudley Young, ably assisted by Trophy Officer Paul Steinhardt. As Leigh Wynne was ill his daughter Susa presented his two Trophies. Another Trophy donor was Jim Stubbings who was given a round of applause. The most touching award was made by Barbie Longland in memory of her husband Ian who had been a valuable crew for many years. The man who won the Most Valuable Crew Member Award was Lyle Stanaway off KISKA.

Competition for the Table Decoration Award was strong. Susa Wynne-Hoelscher, the judge, was impressed by the efforts made by RAMJET, STEPPIN'ALONG, AKIMBO, CAT'S WHISKERS and KISKA. After much deliberation, the award went to KISKA for their yellow and black theme in table cloth, place mats, serviettes and apparel. The standard has been set. Table Decoration next year will have a hard act to follow.

A man who has done a great deal for the Club won the Gold Rush Award. John Hamaty a Vice Commodore, has been involved with Club Development, Sailability and racing. He has made a huge success of the bar which has made a big profit this financial year. Winners of the Kareelah Trophy were Kim and Jill Mitchell who supplied us with cruising stories for Multinews.

The Best Dressed Couple Award goes to Randolph and Suzanne Ingram, owners of KNOT TOO SHABBY. The Sparkling Female Award was shared by Jan Cruse and Cheryl Barnes. The Groupie Award goes to KISKA. The raffles went well with wine going to Paul Steinhardt and Sue Perry. Jan Cruse won the rum.

I am always amazed that although we have no Social Committee, things get done. This is because there are generous people who see a need and hop in and help. Sue Perry let in the Caterers. She also helped with the setting up and the selling of raffle tickets. Thanks to Robyn Scholl who sold the tickets in the rum. Briony Jenkins is always ready to help with awful jobs like washing up and kitchen control. I hope people enjoyed the luxury of china plates. We had to wash them all up (The caterers only provided plastic ones which are thrown away.)

The Trophy Night was not only a numerical success but it was also a social success. People came to enjoy themselves. The Executive has worked hard this past year for the members. On Trophy Night, members showed their appreciation for the Club and for what it is doing for them. Thank you for your support.

Offshore Multihull Rating (OMR) System

The MYCQ Administers the Offshore Multihull Rating (OMR) System, which is used to handicap all Multihull Yachts. It is similar to the IRC system used for monohulls but is tailored to be applied to all Multihull Designs. This website provides:

The MYCQ regularly reviews the OMR formulas by looking at race results and analysing trends and new technologies to ensure the OMR system is current and as accurate as possible.

As with most handicapping systems, it is not perfect and rather than criticizing the system and the people that administer it we encourage you to become involved in the club and contribute to developing the system.
