SAILING INSTRUCTIONS PART B

RACE: Mooloolaba Return

TYPE: Ocean Race 5

DATE: Sunday 30th October 2016

START TIME: 0900 hrs

OFFICER OF THE DAY: TBA

SAFETY REGS: Cat 3 plus MYCQ Sailors Handbook

SHIPPING MOVEMENTS:  OOD to obtain shipping schedule from port control before the race and pass to participants so all vessels are aware of what large shipping could be encountered. Phone 3305 1700 and request Confirmed Shipping Movements for the day.

RADIO MONITORING: All race participants are to monitor VHF Ch12 between the NW Fairway and the Coffee Pots and will communicate as required with ship traffic.

PORT CONTROL ADVICE: After the start, the OOD will advise Brisbane Harbour Control on Ch 12 VHF the number of boats competing and the approximate time the fleet will arrive at and leave the shipping channel.

RADIO SKEDS:

1: 0833 hrs on Ch 72 VHF: Contact Start Boat to register.

 

2: 1215 hrs on Ch 72 VHF: Contact OOD with Lat/Long position, and then every 3 hours until you finish.

 

If no contact, try again 10 minutes after sked time on Ch 81 VHF.

NOTE: Radio Skeds are compulsory. Failure to comply will result in a penalty.

START PROCEDURE:  As per YA Racing Rules of Sailing Part 3 Rule 26

START LINE: Between the Start Boat and the Green Entrance Beacon to Mooloolaba Harbour.

COURSE: From the start, observing all navigational marks except shipping channel marks, unless otherwise specified, and then

FINISH LINE: The southern most of the 2 Port Marks situated to the north of St. Helena Is. (27’21.9S – 153’13.9E) and with the mark bearing 210’

RACE DISTANCE:  approx 48 nm

TIME LIMIT: None, see safety regs.

FINISH TIMES:  Competitors shall record their own finishing times and submit to the OOD by radio or mobile phone (number to be advised at sign on) as soon as possible after finishing. By submitting a time, you are making an automatic declaration that you have sailed in accordance with the rules. Yachts not finishing MUST report to the OOD or other competing yacht, to be registered as DNF.

RACE FEE:  $ 5.00

NOTE: All persons competing in club events do so at their own risk and indemnify the club and its servants.  A condition of entry is that each entrant carries at least five million dollars public liability insurance. All sailors should note that the international regulations for prevention of collisions apply at all times. 
Have special regard for rule 9 Uniform Shipping Laws Code 2008  Sect.16 International Regs.for Preventing Collision Collisions at Sea when in or near the shipping channel.

Offshore Multihull Rating (OMR) System

The MYCQ Administers the Offshore Multihull Rating (OMR) System, which is used to handicap all Multihull Yachts. It is similar to the IRC system used for monohulls but is tailored to be applied to all Multihull Designs. This website provides:

The MYCQ regularly reviews the OMR formulas by looking at race results and analysing trends and new technologies to ensure the OMR system is current and as accurate as possible.

As with most handicapping systems, it is not perfect and rather than criticizing the system and the people that administer it we encourage you to become involved in the club and contribute to developing the system.
